In need of a little advice. I've been doing the Christopher (5x5) routine and my numbers have gone up on everything but bench. I'm still stuck at pretty much the same weight. Thing is, I'm after chest development, not high numbers so I try to use the best form possible and touch and go on every rep. Yesterday though, I only went down about 3/4 of the way, and increased my bench by 15 pounds on the final set. It seemed too easy, which is why I'm here. Am I getting any benefit from these partial reps? Or should I continue to go all the way down even if that means low weight and getting "stuck" on the last set?

if you want to build your chest, doing partials is dumb, since your pecs are most active during the bottom portion of the movement

do bench as your first exercise

rather than squat or DL or whatever his routine calls for

Form is more important than numbers.

Cool. I usually do Squat->Dead->Bench->DB Incline Bench as the routine calls for. I'll try switching it up. Any tips (everyone) on getting past that point when the bar is just above your chest? It always happens to me on the last and heaviest set that I need my spotter to help me lift it a few inches off my chest then I can power it the rest of the way up. Otherwise I get stuck. If my spotter is helping me a bit, I'm still benefitting right?

    hammer your lats

how ever many sets you do for them now, do 2x as much

and make sure you are rowing, not doing pullups

Once again, I don't care about numbers, just chest development. I proudly drop the weights to what I can handle, because I don't want to be able to bench 300+lbs and have a chest like a 13yr old girl. But I do need to increase my bench on a regular basis, even if it's only 5 pounds every two weeks, otherwise I'm not growing. I have noticed some improvements though. Like this week I used my previous 5th set as my second, and was able to touch and go to the chest on every single rep without a spotter.

What kind of rowing excercise? Or do you mean I should concentrate harder to make sure I'm using my lats instead of just pulling myself up?

no... do rows instead of pullups if thats what the routine tells you to do

you wont fuck up the routine by substituting pullups for rows

Oh okay, I'll give that a try. Pull-ups haven't been doing much for me anyhow.

Bent over rows are a back excercise right? Plus they're already included in the routine. I'll add upright rows though, I like those and used to do them for my shoulders/traps.

how wide is your grip on bench? the wider you go the more chest focus you are going to get... you might need to widen out your grip
