is there any major difference in long term gains/ definition? for ex: if the flat bench is taken up (which usually they are) im usually able to get ahold of the bench to do dumbell presses on. even though the weight is less with the dumbells, will there be any major difference?

its good to mix it up every now and then - Im gonna start working in some DB presses on my dynamic effort days. You'll be fine - there are lots of stabilizing muscles envolved with DBs.

I only use DBs now. I can realy feel the stretch in my chest at the bottom and my chest has really grown since I started

I've been doing DBs for the past couple of months.

I'm going to do the bar for my max in a couple of weeks and see how it's been.

Glad you posted this. Right now I only have access to DBs... I'm curious what type of results I will get vs free weights..

i like doing my heavy sets with bb, since i can do lots more weight, then supplementing that with some db work, just to give the stabalizers some extra action

plus, the larger range of motion you get with db's gives you a good stretch after your heavy sets, and helps with some positions your muscles don't get in with bb

I've been using dumbells for awhile now and i tend to add 25-30 pounds when switching to my bench. For example im using 85 lb dumbells right now for 5X5 , so technically im lifting 170 lbs. But when I do my bench i rep 205 for 5X5.

I've seen really good results with dumbell use and have been increasing dumbells approximately 5 pounds every one to two weeks (ie 85 --> 90 lb dubmells, so 10 pounds total).

My DBs only go to 50.. I need to get some free weight DB bars so I can start adding weight. 50lbs are getting obsolete.. :hs:

My apartment complex has a gym, but no free weights - It has some equipment that emulate the free weights (include though, none while laying on my back), but there are constantly people on them.

I will get a gym membership once I shed some more BF. I'd like to be in decent shape before going to a gym. I know, weird.. but I'd like to grow out of this one before spending money on more..

I see where you're coming from, just make sure you get to a gym once you shed the weight so you can get swole :o

I've been sticking to strictly DB's lately just for a change. I like them.

I do DBs only because I don't have a spoter. Also because I do a whole upper body work out it's easyer and quicker with the DBs. My gym has DBs that go up to 180lb.
