whats your rep scheme for bench press?

i've done 5 sets of 5 reps the last couple times but i feel it's not enough. i'm thinking 5 sets of 8 might be good.

if you are doing 5x5 and thinking of upping to 5x8, perhaps adding some more weight would change your mind.

if i upped the weight then i wouldn't be able to do 5 reps for 5 sets.

my thought was dropping the weight a bit so that i could do 5 sets of 8. it's hard to do the 5 sets of 5 (most of the time i need assistance for the last rep on set 5 and maybe 4) but afterwards i dont really feel like i did a lot.

You could always try slowing down. Do 3-5 Sec up and 3-5 Sec down...

Then do 5x5 with increasing weights. Do as many as you can for the last few.

well right now i can do 5x5 at one specific weight needing assistance on the last rep of the last set. if i was to do increasing weights then i would have to drop the weight in the begining. so 5 reps of less weight would be way too easy.

what i decided to do was just do 5x5 on the bench press and do 3x8 for incline dumbbell press and decline dumbbell press. before i was doing 5x5 for everything.
