To preface, I have never had any back problems from squating or pulling. Right now, I pull 465 and squat 345 (the disparity is due to me using an olympic squat--I prefer it), I have no real interest in geared lifting, perhaps do a powerlifting meet when I get my bench up (don't want to talk about it....) most likely not, and I train mainly for fun, but mainly to be a brute.

What are people's experiences with belts?--keep in mind, I want to hear from people that are stronger pullers than me.

they help you lift more weight but do not protect against injury at all...

yep, what GT said. My raw pull with a belt is in the high 500s right now, but i'll sometimes take off the belt for rep work with 405/455 or even 495. It helps keep you locked in, especially if you know how to breathe right...but definitely not an injury preventer. That point where, without one, you start to fold over and round your lower back/bend your stomach...having a tight belt and a belly full of air will stop that from happening at that point, and let you lift more weight. Wouldn't hurt to buy one and give it a shot if you're training to get strong.

And what are some good quality belts aka lifetime belts? Looked at EFS and they don't seem to have the leather/traditional ones...

i only belt up on bent rows, hack squats, and the occasional dl. Helps me maintain a little bit more stabilization while performing those lifts

I'd go with the Inzer Lever. Heard good things.

I own a EFS belt. Didn't know they stopped making them

I was told by a personal trainer in my gym that I should get a belt if I'm going to squat to help prevent lower back injury. :dunno:

I don't know if its just me, but when I wear a squat belt, the added pressure makes me feel like I might get a hernia or something. I don't really know what a hernia would feel like, but I a shitload of pressure in the groin area when I use a belt + a belly full of air.

But other than that, I can push out more reps with a belt. I try to use it sparingly...

I somewhat understand what he is saying...but hear me out:

If it helps lift more weight, assuming you wouldn't be able to do so without heavy risk of injury therefore preventing a possible injury...no? Thats how the PT explained it to me.

The only injury I've ever gotten was due to me wearing a belt, so have never worn one since.

Tore a stomach muscle dropping a squat using a belt.

Damn, wonder why EFS stopped making belts. I liked mine better than the Inzer I used to have.

Anyone knows where they got them from?
