Posting a new thread to get attention. No one posts in my log. I've been grappling mainly no gi for about 2 years now, very "on and off" in my training. I've been taking it semi seriously lately and my gym is finally getting their act together as far as publishing the curriculum and testing syllabus. My instructor has only recently been given the "freedom" to test and promote freely. I'm only a one stripe white belt (because I usually go to no gi and my gym has rarely promoted in the past), and this month I'm testing for 4 stripes. I could probably test for my blue belt but I haven't been doing enough grappling lately in my own mind, so I will probably test for it next time (3 months). How does this look?

Threading the needle is a movement drill. Pretty easy, but I don't exactly know how to explain it. The 5's on the other hand I have no idea what he means. I probably do know it but don't recognize it on paper.

You mean the "swimming movement" where one bridges and moves the non-posting leg under/through the posted leg which turns your torso (i.e. rear mount escape to side control)?

Yep that one exactly. We finish the movement with a shoulder roll and then do the opposite leg (to keep the movement drill moving).

    :h5:

That drill sounds really disorienting, though. :o I have bad inner ears and get disoriented pretty quickly after 3-4 sucessive rolls.

One of our warmups is a somersault/roll into a sprawl. That is the one that really makes me dizzy (we do it the length of the mats, twice).

    And here we go:

My testing wasn't a display of technique. My coaches have watched me grapple and grappled with me for 10 months, they knew where my technique was at. Plus the weekend before I won Pan Ams. Instead I went against 3 blues, got destroyed; 2 purples, got demolished; and 2 black belts, died. Ran the gauntlet in front of everyone. After the testing they awarded four new blue belts and a few tips to different white belts. I was sitting there at the end of the white belt line kinda wondering, "Uh...?" They started to bow and I must have looked like someone just threw my puppy in a blender. Matt goes, "Oh..hey, what's that *points at box that had belts in it*" Roli responded, "Man, that's just an extra blue belt in case someone's belt didn't fit." "Well, we got too much shit in the office, you want to just go ahead and give it to someone?" "Yeah, but certainly not to a woman. Women have a place in front of the stove, not on the mats. They should never receive recognition for going against nature." At this point, I've got the most bummed look on my face, they laughed, and called me up.

    I love Roli.

Dave purposefully skipped me too when he was giving belts. He called Aubry and Blake then went on to The Fight Clinic guys. I almost cried.

    :mamoru:

He stopped and said "Oh...there is an ole miss guy we forgot" I almost cried again.

I was so nervous I wasn't going to get it and I didn't want to look like I was expecting it so I told my GF to leave her nice camera at home and just stick her point and shoot in her purse.

I later found out that Blake had to convince him I was ready :noes:

I had been training hard in Oxford but it was so hard for me to afford to come to memphis every week like he did. I could only make it bi-monthly.

I <3 nathen. His new hair style is :mamoru:

I randomly saw him at a party in Memphis that my GF went to.

The first time I came in to do some MMA stuff with dave after he found me fighitng at the daisy none of the guys there wanted to stand and trade with me except him. Fucker hits hard, it was fun :x:

That was back before steve combs wanted to punch. I could pick him apart standing before he judo threw and twisted me into a pretzel.

Now hes jsut impossible for me :(

Steve Combs is a freakin monster.
