Alright, so I've had my belly button pierced for about.... 6 years now. And it's almost ALWAYS infected. SO I think I'm ready to take it out. Can I just take it out and it will heal up nicely? I've heard rumours about "trapping the infection" when you take the ring out... any truth in that?

From what I've heard, yeah, it's possible. But seriously, 6 years and still getting infections, you want that shit checked out anyway!

When i took out my nipple rings due to contant irritation and infection, I was concerned about the same thing. (Who wants an abcess on their boob!?) I was told to take super hot "hot as you can stand" showers and soak in there for a while to allow the discharge, if any, to drain.

Yours sounds like mine was, irritated. You should be just fine if you do that.

one of my friends had her nipple rings do that after she took them out. one day in the shower, while soaping her boob, puss started oozing out. nasty. :barf:

That sucks you have to take it out, but I rather have no piercing than one that just won't heal...or gets constantly irritated. Good luck! Let us know what happens with the infection and everything. :big grin:

Read the part where she/he/whatever said that they are very active in sporting activities and it gets constant rubbing on the jeans, etc. Chronic irritation like that will ruin a piercing easily.

I did read that but I go running all the time and did when I first got it (I was in track). My piercing always was rubbing against my shorts but it never got infected, guess maybe it depends on the person...
