So not really completely green to cameras, but first time really taking out the DSLR and TRIED to get some good shots in. Had the pics in PPed and ready but was way too lazy to post. Tried to capture the process of thanksgiving?

Anyhow, D5000 and a flash. The crudest, honest of CCs are encouraged and welcome! :bigthumb:

16 is interesting, and makes a clean, graphic visual statement.
The rest have a "hay I just got a camera" feel to them.

I love #14. (Turkey in the oven.)

I like the spices above the stove top, the pots on the stove and the turkey centered. I think it's the best one.

The drink pics might have come out a little better if there was more background light.

white balance is off on most. not much context. if you hadn't told me it was thanksgiving i wouldn't know (unless i saw the whole set together). few of them have meaning for anyone but the people who were there.

i liked the "finished plate" picture, except for the reflection on the table. some good shots in there imo. good candidates for a photobook :)

13 is odd to me. The focus is on his ear when it should be on the turkey.

1-boring and the background is meh
    2-yum
    3-wb looks off
4-needs a better background, then it'll be nice
    5-better
6-i think the focus should have been on the olives
    7-confusing shot
    8-too much of a snapshot
    9-nothing to say here
    10-don't care for this shot
11-i really like this shot–vibrant colors, nice composition.
    12-odd angle/framing
13-shirt is overexposed, turkey is underexposed
14-nice shot of the turkey in the oven with the "cooking mess" above, but it looks like you were off-center when you took it
15-the big arm ruins this shot, but good idea
16-get the whole plate next time
17-i like this shot, nice idea
18-i like this shot, nice composition, but try not to cut the edges of the plate off
19-get the whole plate next time, but otherwise it's a nice shot

I like 3 but it would rock if the white balance was better and you removed the table support leg on the right hand side.

i like 14 as well, it just seems like the framing of the picture is off a bit, maybe taking a step back and getting less of the cabinets up top and more of the open door to the oven. *edit* on second thought, maybe get less in the picture, use the spices as the upper border and the top of the glass on the door as the bottom, this should help cut out the cabinets on the left/right as well.

I'll clarify that you don't always want to include all of a subject in a shot...sometime it makes sense to cut part of it off, so what I do is take a couple shots with different compositions so I can choose later.

If you don't want to do that you can always include the entire thing in the shot, then crop it in post.

white balance is off. Everything has a orangy tint to it. Try manually selecting a white balance setting on the camera.

Art is how it is interpreted in the eyes of the beholder. I remember having Christmas dinner at the home of a friend who was a farmer when I lived in Sicily. It was truly one of the most memorable holiday gatherings I have ever attended. #14 reminded me of that place and the good feelings I have regarding that experience.

    .

While balance is inconsistent (not that it needs to be)

A lot of the pictures look too "warm" Tone it down a little bit. Also, a lot of the food shots seem very desaturated in color, and lack vibrance. Try dialing up the saturation or vibrance on some.

i do and did PP with it, but apparently its not that obvious?

I always select white balances manually, but I'm always confused when it comes to incadescent and flourescent etc. lighting. I guess i should read up on that :o

hey im really glad it brought back memories and liked it

    ty again.

I did boost the saturation and vibrance in LR for all of them, but I'm never sure when its just too much :hsd:

 it was pretty damn good. alton browns recipe for brining and roasting a turkey.
