    My wifes Beetle..
Cliffnotes:My wife and I were on our way to work Monday morning.
Dodge 3500 truck runs a red light, slams into us at 50+mph. Those pictures are the result.
Wifey was driving, I was passenger seat.
The passenger door was not opened. Thats from the impact! Car is totalled.. The A frame was bent so bad that it cracked in 2 places.

    :sadwavey: Bye bye Beetle!

Im just happy we both walked out of the hospital with minor injuries.

    Sucks :(

At least now you can trust the safety of VW's... I was in a serious accident in a GMC Suburban a couple months back, and I now entirely trust GM to keep me safe ;)

Wow!! Glad you and your wife are ok. Sure changed my opinion of the beetle. I always thought it was a rolling death trap.

As much as I didnt like the car (bit too slow, bit too girly, bit too cutesy for me), I always said that I felt safe with her driving that car. It did awesome in crash tests and she felt safe driving it.

I feel bad for her, she misses her baby now. We looked at a couple last night on the way home from the yard and she is leaning towards another Beetle, rather then a Passat which is the way she was going to go... Fine with me. I just hope she does the turbo this time.

I always feel safe driving the Polo, and this really does show that for the extra cost and weight of a modern VW, it really is worth it for crash safety.

She mentioned a mini on Saturday.
I love the car, but they just seem a little too small for me (on the inside).. But its another car I really could play with too!

I don't mean to be harsh, but I'm glad you were in the passenger seat . . . as I'm sure you were. But I'm still happy no one was hurt.

I was very nearly in an accident like that last weekend, and I KNOW my Cougar wouldn't have held up like that (and the accident would have killed my gf, without a doubt). Chalk up another one for VW!

Definately keep her in a VW or Mini. Both have excellent safety records pretty much across the board.

We actually went to check out the Mini last night.
Nice car I guess, but its just SO small! She liked it, but mostly because it was "cute".. She didnt like the way it felt overall, so the mini is out.

On the way back, I drove the car. Whoo, that car is a friggin blast to throw around! Its small but really hugs good. I dont see it as a daily driver though.

Gonna go look at Beetles again tonight to see if she finds one she likes.
All I ask for is a turbo!
