As I posted earlier in the year, I am starting out with Muay Thai. Not to become a fighter or anything, but get fit before looking into other things within Muay Thai and Jui Jitsu. I don't think I'm in the right shape to start Jui Jitsu yet, so I'm trying to shed the extra pounds with Muay Thai.

So far, with cleaning my diet (not entirely) and training 2-4 times a week, I've managed to shed 15 lbs in about 1.5 months. The first 1 month was just getting my muscles back in the habit of working out. I think I have about 30-40lbs more that I could lose before feeling "great" about trying my hands at Jui Jitsu.

I'd love to hear some similar stories because they keep me motivated and trying that much harder at every training session.

Biggest mistake is to "wait until you are in shape" to start bjj.

Just start. It also a great work out and will help you lose weight faster. Plus you will be learning.

Well, I agree with you a point. However, GJJ training starts as soon as MT ends at the training center. I see some guys run to the locker rooms and put on their Gi's and hit the floor for GJJ.

After a good MT training session, I'm in no shape to go through a GJJ session right away.

I never understand why people say they arent in shape for Jiu Jitsu. The only way to get in shape for it is by doing it

Just go for it man. I started when I was 22 and ever day I wish I had started earlier. Every week you dont start is another week you could have been learning and absorbing.

I disagree. Wrestling and Judo workouts I do on my own get me into plenty good enough shape for bjj. Granted I eat clean and work out 4-5/week, but my cardio comes from the wrestling and judo stuff I do and I'm just fine in bjj.
