I've currently got a Queen Size mattress and Box Spring on a basic metal frame. I'm 23 and think its time to start upgrading my furniture and thats a good place to start. I don't know where to start as far as where to look and what to look for. I don't know what price range I have to spend to get something quality, but if its possible to spend less than 250, that would be great. I could go to 500 if needed and I really liked it. I think black is the color I want. There is an IKEA in my area, but I have concerns about IKEA furniture being sturdy enough for a bed.

I have an ikea bed that I paid $129 for and it's been good to me for the past couple years.

If you're really that worried about it, check out West Elm. You'll end up spending closer to your $500 limit, but they have some ok stuff.

    $569 + delivery

There's also Room & Board, but that's in a higher price category...

    $599

If you move ikea is a pain to take apart and put back together and with the cheaper wooden beds sometimes they start showing wear quickly.

I had a furniture store bed (wooden) that I got second hand where the side rails just sit into the head and foot board. Pretty nifty and easy to put together...but heavy as hell.

I have a Malm IKEA bed. I bought it because I needed an upgrade and didn't want to spend a ton of money. It's an awesome bed and while it's fairly new, it's held up through a lot of abuse. Looks brand new still.

interstate - I like the idea of the Malm IKEA bed, that was the same one I was considering getting, but then again I'm a bit worried about that black-brown color. Why couldn't they have just made it flat black? I think that would have been much cooler. Everything in that place is that color.

EDIT: I also have light carpet, and not a huge room. I live in an apartment, but its not student housing or anything like that. My bedroom is 11' x 12'. I don't plan to stay there forever though.

Mine is black/brown. I actually like the color a lot. It's very dark and looks black until you get close. The lighting in the store is usually a bit brighter than in a home. But yeah, I like the color, even the off-blackness of it. I have a white/speckled grey color carpet, it looks pretty good in my room. If you have other black furniture, it goes very well.
