I've heard that its possible to become your own isp. I'm wondering if this is possible with high speed connections. What would I need and how would I do it?

You still need a decent box if you're gonna host sites, etc. Or is this just for personal stuff?

The killer is going to be getting enough upload bandwidth at a price you can afford if you're going to host servers. And you wouldn't really be your own ISP. Every ISP has an ISP unless you're running your own backbone network.

this violates most TOS's for anything under $1000 a month.

lol, you won't be your own ISP. You have no idea how much equipment, business licenses etc everything would total.

:werd: The university here is right on the backbone, but even they arrange it through Telus (big ISP/phone company up here).
