First chance to use this lens I got from Girth outside, took a bunch of pics, only a few worth posting. My plan was to only get pictures of the statue of Huge Mercer, but we decided to poke around old town Fredericksburg while we were down in the area so I got a few shots down there too.

    1. Alley way leading towards a garden shop. This one was my favorite because of the way the shadows coming off the trellis were cast on the wall.

    2. Random people on the street.

    4. Stopped in the wine shop where the wife used to work (we get a fat discount) and took a shot of all the micro brews. mmmmm beer.

    5. This picture sucks, but i had to post it since I rarely see cars getting ticketed for shitty parking

    6. The statue of Revolutionary War Brig. General Hugh Mercer.

    9. Wife sitting patiently in the car while i shot all those pictures of the statue. i took 75 or 80 and wasn't really happy with any of them :hs:

Oh well, still learning but I think i'm progressing, just slowly. I love this lens!

I'm still very green and learning a lot, so I was playing around a with different stops and shutter speeds to experiment with how the exposure came out.

Is that direct flash? Looks too snapshot-ish. Number 6FTW, 7 looks too upskirt, if that makes any sense?

Everything was direct flash except the ally picture. I held my SB800 over my head pointing at the wall to fill in the shadows. i even tried using my umbrella and stand to fill in the right side of the statue, but it was too windy and too high up for me to get a good fill.

Which picture are you referring to specifically?

    also, i like #6

the only thing i didn't like about my wide angle was the shitty aperture.

    f/4 sucks ass, even outdoors

2,3,5 look harshly lit. On the statue one I couldn't even tell you were using flash. I can't view the exif data cause Im in school but were you shooting within your sync speed, since it was off camera, and if you were, were you giving it enough fill. Im guessing they were at a really high f-stop and therefore you'd need like 1/4-1/1 power.

haha, we'll out be out of the country for work from march to april, so i won't get to VIR until June probably, but you're welcome to head out and watch! We'll probably hit Summit asap after i get back from Germany too, that's a little closer than VIR

yeah, 2 and 3 are definitely harsh. I had the flash pointed directly forward with no diffuser on it - i wasn't even thinking about that :hs:

5 i put no thought into whatsoever, i just wanted the shot of the car with the ticket :o

i was mostly shooting 1/4 - 1/1 power yes - the main benefit I think i got from using it on the statue was that it filled in the engraved text some. The exif gets stripped by my host but i can pull it out if you want to look, any critique i can get is welcome!

See the problem with 5 is that all I see is the license plate. Be careful with signs too, they're made to reflect lights
