Went out into the dark forests of the mountains again last night.

God it's so beautiful out there.

Never safer and more at home do I feel under the magnificence of the Milky Way home in which we live.

    Canon 400D/static tripod mounted/18-55 EF-s lens/35 second exposures/ISO800//RAW/multiple images stitched together/canon photostitch/

Man just toss that into photoshop and pop the colors and reduce the nose and you are done.

wow.. i guess the light pollution in my area really sucks.. I can't get anything to look like that..

18-55 at 3.5 ISO 1600 at 30 seconds comes out this big orange blur with a couple of random stars :(

    Baz, try this in PS:

Image -> Mode -> Lab color

Layers -> Duplicate layer (name it whatever you want. I think it defaults to "background copy.")

Select the duplicate layer in the Layers pallette.

    Select the Channels pallette, then choose "a" (you'll see Lab / Lightness / a / b )

Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian (try it at 2 pixels to start)

Apply the blur to to "a" and "b" channels but not "lightness."

Image -> Mode -> RGB (If it asks you if you want to merge layers, select "don't merge")

That should get rid of a LOT of the color noise you see here.

Now alternately hide & unhide the top layer where you applied the blur. This should give you an idea of areas where you might NOT have wanted to suppress the colors. Whip out the eraser tool and erase little holes in the top, blurred layer to let the original show through. Maybe set the eraser at about 10% opacity and work slowly.

If you want to email me one of those pics (jaimezx -at- aol -dot - com) I'd be happy to do a quick before-and-after on it. Or not, whatever.

 work bro. Wish I had dark skies around here.

    Wow:bowdown:
Thanks Jaime. That sounds like fun. I will try it. I only have photoshop elements 6 and I am not very good with it, but I hope it is possible to do all that on the short version.

Good on ya mate, for taking the time and going to that effort for me.

    Bless you.

    Baz.
