i was reading a review of the new batman movie with Christian Bale when i read this:

In order to play this part, Bale had to gain about 85 pounds
(re-acquiring the 65 pounds lost from his work in The Machinist
and putting on an additional 20 pounds of muscle).

That was interesting so I looked up some info on the Machinist. It said he dropped from 180 to 120lbs. So in batman he weighs around 205 (he's 6'2"). Then i noticed this: The machinist finished filming in August of 2003 and Batman Begins began filming in March 2004. So he gained 85 lbs in 7 months?? That seems insane. i know the 65lbs he iniatially lost could probably be gained back fast.

I also found this quote from him:

On his transformation into Patrick Bateman for American Psycho (2000):
"The character is so vain and obsessed with his looks.
While the psychology of the character was something that I could
perform, you can't fake the physicality. Being English, I tend to
enjoy going down to the pub far more than going to the gym,
so it was very unnatural for me. I just had to convince myself
that I loved it, which was the most difficult thing about playing
this part. Working out is incredibly boring. I swear its true that
the bigger your muscles get, the fewer brain cells you have.
I found I had to stop thinking when I was in the gym because
if I thought about it, I'd realize how ridiculous it was that
I was pumping iron when I could've been out having a drink and a
cigarette and enjoying some lunch. I did three hours a day for
six weeks with a personal trainer and some time before that.
I ate an awful lot during training and then almost nothing
    during filming."

I find it hard to believe a man with that attitude could accomplish that.

Christian Bale has some amazing dedication. There are very few actors, if any that could and would put their body through those lengths for a roll. That shows a lot about his dedication and personal character.
