I was watching the MD - UNC game on Sunday and they mentioned that this guy (we call him Boom) came in benching 275 and now benches 340, which is a team record.

340 doesn't seem like a very big record, especially for an elite-level division 1 athletics program. Is this just cause basketball players are tall giving them poor leverages, or moreso due to the type of conditioning they do? The guy is 6'8".

He's a basketball player. Not a football or hockey player.

combination of both. The majority of bball players are weak. Tall, skinny, and spend their days running up and down a court. Doesnt really make for a good strength building atmosphere.

being 6'5, with a ridiculously long wingspan, i dont bench a whole lot, like 225 is my max, its ALOT harder when your arms are almost unproportionally long... most of the shit we do for strength building is conditioning and plyometric drills as well as some basic leg presses and shit, bench really doesnt do much for basketball...

Do you play basketball? At what level?

Isn't it weird that we get weaker as we get taller? You'd think tall=big=strong... I'm 6'4" so I have some of the same issues.

most basketball trainers are way behind when it comes to strength training. that, and the poor leverages.

Most basketball players are horrible at benching. It's a combination of bad leverages and that the bench press offers little benefit to the sport.

My uncle played for them '73 - '76, was the starting center in '74, '75, '76 ... went to a few bowl games and won some ACC championships.

He's still a huge mother fucker.

He was told that he would have went pro if he were 2-3 inches taller :hs:

im a walk on at NC state... due to my injury im not officially on the roster, but i practice and train with the team, and i will be playing next year

as far as the chest pass... all we do is stand about 8 feet back from the wall and do chest passes as hard as we can untill they tell us to stop.. about 1 minute into this you will feel a burn more intense than anything you have ever felt in your life

haha, since im not officially on the team, i cant dress out, but i still party with all my boys..

it was a tough choice between playing scholarship at a mid major school or walk on at a big school.. my dad played for wake forest back in the day, so wake was a VERY VERY VERY close choice

btw, if you ever saw gavin grants wingspan in real life you would be AMAZED, people talk about brendan wright from UNC, gavin grant is right there, and he is only 6'6!!!
