    Pure pistol marksmanship?

Only four elements matter: Sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control and follow through.

Of those four the two most important are sight picture and trigger control.

The single biggest reason people miss their targets is trigger control.

Focus on your front sight and press your trigger straight to the rear to get hits where your pistol is aimed.

    Sounds too simple doesn't it.

Forget all the crap about breathing, stance, grip, caliber, whatever.

Focus on the very top edge of your front sight and smoothly press your trigger and you will get good hits at all reasonable pistol distances.

Keep in mind this discussion is about marksmanship and not speed shooting or anything else.

i can calmly have the sights perfectly aimed up...almost no shaking, then my shots can end up anywhere :[ last time i went they were slightly to the right, so I could be "thumbing" it. I'm shooting 150rnds this weekend so ill mess around.

Interesting. With my empty hand I actually grasp under the handle heh, so my firing hand is almost resting in the palm of my empty one.

it's comfortable, but apparently its wrong :dunno:

I'll hold is like that dude and see how it goes

Don't forget either an hour with a good shooter coaching you will be worth countless hours reading. Pay a couple bucks to have the pros help you get started and learning good techniques. Its a bargain compared to spending hours at the range and hundreds of dollars of ammo practing sucking :big grin:

you're doing something that you're not aware of. Get some dummy rounds and put them in the mag to see if you have a bad flinch or something.

    Thumbing?

    Grip doesn't matter. Seriously.

Press your trigger straight to the rear.

Mix in some dummy rounds with the live rounds in your magazines and you'll be able to see what you are doing to the gun when it goes 'click' instead of 'bang'. Any movement of the gun is YOU. And that is why you miss.

Squeeze the trigger, don't pull. Randomly mix some spent brass or snap caps in while loading your mags to see if you're flinching or anticipating the shot.

*edit: doh, ShackleMeNot beat me to the last part.
