I got sworn in today into Coast Guard DEP .
I find out on monday/tuesday when I'm leaving for boot.
grats, any idea which rate you're looking into?
MK is the only fun job I CAN do. Not a citizen .
why is the coast guard the hardest branch to get into ?
you guys dont even depoy rigth /
Deploy where? Port Security (PS) reservists deploy all the time to the Patrol Forces Southwest Asia area. We have had several cutters in the area since this last Iraq war started. I tried going but its pretty competitive trying to get on those patrol boats, especially as an OS1.
MK is a pretty good rate, its one of the better jobs to learn while in the CG that will translate to a civilian job if/when you get out. Plus MK's and BM's get to go to more units than any other rates. I'm stuck mostly with major city areas as an OS.
Good luck at boot, it's mostly an academic boot more than anything. As long as you don't make yourself known to the company commanders. Just keep your mouth shut and you'll sail through the 8 weeks. I heard it sucks there in the winter though >< I went in July/Aug 2001 and it was black flag weather every other day FTL.
the two really large cutters here in charleston deploy to the caribbean all the time
