do bananas really give you an extra jump of energy before a workout?

i remember reading a post where someone said bananas are great sources of protein/carb? to eat before/after workouts?

I try to eat 3 or 4 before a really long run or bike race, bananas have a lot of potassium which helps prevent muscle cramps as well

:werd: we would always load up on the bananas during 4-a-days in high school. bananas and pedialyte were lifesavers

Bananas supposedly have a chemical in them that attract mosquitoes, which I can attest to.

No to be a smart ass, but a banana after workout is'nt very good.

The sugar in a banana is all fructose which is digested and stored in the liver to be then used at a later date, even though a banana is high GI.

After workout you need fast acting sugars like dextrose to restore the glycogen in your muscles fast, dextrose is like dinking pure glycogen which your body does'nt have to digest from anything like with starchy foods like oatmeal.

Tbh, fructose really is'nt needed at all from a health stand-point except for the vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytonutrients fruit contains

I wouldn't say avoid, I meant that I just never eat them before workout unless it's in the morning, not for any particular reason

Alot of marathoners split em up and eat 2 before the start and 2 after they cross the finish line. It really does help with the cramps whic I can atest to from death days with a former DI as a gym coach back in hs.
