Looks like I'm going to be leaving here soon. If you are at Camp Liberty or will be within the next month or so, and your missions take you out into the MND-B area of operations, AND you have a Garmin GPS, I have something for you that will make your life easier. I can't email this to you, so this will require a meet. :hsugh:

My mission cycle is constantly changing right now, and I rarely know more than a couple of days in advance where in Baghdad I'm going to be. So if we do set up a meet you'll need to be flexible with your times/dates.

PM me with your .mil email address for details.

It has a fairly decent PX.

The DFACs are definitely different. The DeFluery DFAC is plasticware only, and it seems like the cooks are always having to relearn how to make omelettes. Stryker DFAC is real forks/knives and they have a better selection of food. They also have fresh waffles made to order. I don't get over there very often, but when I'm there for breakfast I make a beeline for the waffle line.

The main road is paved, but there are a shitload of dirt/gravel roads, so the dust is always an issue. Mud is also an issue when you get to the rain season. Water just stands on top of the dust and makes this obscene version of greasy mud that follows you everywhere you go.

If you get the chance to go to Anaconda (a few hours by convoy), take it. They have large indoor and outdoor pools, a base theater, and paved roads. Most of the advanced training that was available for new vehicles and mods was conducted at Anaconda (train the trainer).

The meals are generally good. I just got spoiled for the two weeks I was at Anaconda. And the Stryker DFAC really is a treat, compared to every other DFAC I've been to in-country.

VBC is weird. Each sub base has it's own feel to it.
Liberty has a "large" PX (not really large by US standards, but by Iraq standards). Liberty is all business.

While the other sections are kinda different. Slayer is like club med, navy and airforce everywhere, have a pool too. Check out the flinstones place.

What kind of speed/bandwidth are you alloted? is it like fast dialup speed, or are you scooting along pretty fast?

I heard they cut off VOIP access at night? If so, that blows...

[IMG]volume limitations minimize congestion on the network and prevent a small number of people from hogging the majority of available bandwidth. This policy is intended to make sure you get what you pay for. If you're a bandwidth hog watch out, you will not to consume more than your fair share. If you are an average user (the majority of users) this policy benifits you by making sure bandwidth hungry hogs don't eat all your bandwidth while you try to surf the net.

BTW: they just started this like may 15th. I've been here for 9 months now, MIT was a little better when i first got here. I used to be able to do webcam with my wife every morning, i can no longer do it :(

    I think ALI's sells internet for $2000 for 2 months (14 people)
