    Compaq Evo N800v laptop

My roommate went to boot it one day and it kept saying "disk read boot error, press ctrl alt del to restart"

i went ahead and reinstalled xp pro, the thing booted right up and worked great. so i gave it back to him and the first time he went to boot it is slower than crap, it will take about 10 mins to load everything

i went into BIOS and there is a HDD self check, two options Quick and Comprehensive. Quick gives a read error and Comprehensive says it is ok.

I'm thinking the HDD, what do you guys think?

i would download and burn seatools. or figure out the brand of the hard drive and download their hard drive utility

from what it looks like, i think the hard drive might have kicked it

i got in the performance monitor and avg. disk queue length keeps spiking 100

also things like min and maximizing windows works just fine, but everything else takes forever

i know a guy selling a 80gig hdd for $30 i think i might just through that in there and see what happens
