Does anyone use those mobile devices to make backups of pics taken at a destination? I was flying home thinking "Oh shit I hope my SD card doesn't decide to take a shit and lose my 800 vacation pics"

I know they have like hard drives and shit that have card readers.

i typically will take my laptop with me, so i will copy the cards to the laptop before heading home. sometimes i'll copy them to an external too and have 3 copies with me. :o

I bring my laptop with me and copy the pics to the laptop daily. It also helps me organize them.

hmm I'm trying to come up with a way as well. I'll be traveling all summer. no laptop only have one 16gb card. I'll probably come back home every couple of weeks but I think that is pushing it

i have a laptop, but damn it's a full size latitude and it adds TONS of weight to my backpack.

i was hoping someone had experience with those little hard drive things.

I've had a few of them and still have a epson p2000. It works fine, a bit slow on the copy speed and battery gets you maybe 8gb of downloading.

The one I have is only 40gb but i'm sure you could swap hdd's

the big thing now for me is the ability to sort and edit right away.

    Oh and Dell

    Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (SAMSUNG-SGH-T919/T919UVHI5 SHP/VPP/R5 NetFront/3.4 SMM-MMS/1.2.0 profile/MIDP-2.0 configuration/CLDC-1.1)

this trip right now i'm carrying my laptop and external. but i've done the back up to cd's before too and that works well. most touristy photo shops can do it.

I've got a harddrive that backups CF cards when they are plugged into it. It powers off 4 AA batteries or AC power. Its an older model and for the life of me I dont remember who the heck makes it, but I've been happy with it.

i have enough SD cards to carry like 5-7k in pics. that's enough for a long ass vacation. would be nice to duplicate on a HD so I can fly home with doubles of everything

I thought about buying one too since I can't bring a laptop with me to China but I'm just gonna risk it. I don't have any more money to spend :wtc:

This. I have one too... the Hyperdrive. It even has a screen so you can preview pics. It has slots to fit almost all kinds of memory cards. You just stick it in and it'll start to auto-copy.
