14 DVDs My HD was full.
fuck that noise
RAID > DVDs
We don't have an insect problem.
RAID is not a backup solution.
Offsite + Online + Multiple Media > pixie dust
I wish my shit fit on 14 DVDs. Shit the last wedding was 6 alone.
are you sure?
Raid is NOT a backup solution
even if mirrored, if the computer sufferes a fire, or gets zapped by lightning, or some other unknown feat, and ALL drives get ruined, then not even the best of recovery techs can get stuff back
Losing thousands of dollars, hours, and etc worth of work is not worth not backing up
I have the following I backup to
and in my gallery subdirectories I store the originals as well
and USB pen drives
raid IS a backup. maybe not a good backup, but it IS a backup...you can argue that all you want.
i am not saying NOT to have off site locations and hard copies of your work on a DVD, but i just wanted to clear up that a raid setup 1, 5, 10....IS a method of backing up data....
sure lightning can take out your entire system....but a lot of other things can also happen as well....so let's not get carried away here.
in the 18 years that i have been living in the same location, i havent had a hard drive fail due to a lightning strike...
sure it can happen, anything can happen.
A RAID array with removeable disks might make a viable backup solution.
With the price of writeable DVDs...I'd have both a DVD backup library and a ready access RAID array.
you can setup a raid 5 array where 3 drives can fail and you can still get ALL your data...
i realize raids are not the BEST backup solution, i just want to clear up the fact that someone said raid is not a backup solution...in fact, that is exactly what it is.
How many pictures did you take?
why not invest in a bluray?
Was gonna say, DL Blu Ray will sort things out very nicely indeed.
50GB is alot of space....
Is it still 20 bucks for a blank blu-ray?
And I was one of 2.5 pros and will be doing all the backend work
not at 20$ a disk
Plus a 3rd party internal BR burner for a MBP is a grand
Wait, there was 2.5 shooters? What'd you have, a midget photog?
pshhh... 50GB is nothing... I have the new experimental body created by a joint venture between canon and nikon and sony (in body IS ftw). It's 1000 megapixels, weighs 50lbs, and each photo is 1gb in size. I carry around 500 memory cards for storage so the blue ray just won't hold enough.
The weight isn't a problem though because in comes with wheels and a little gas engine to help move it around.
RAID = Backup?
