Gov Blunt has already said he will sign this bill. now we finally have the right to protect ourselves in our own homes and we will be immune from civil suits and arrest if we are defending ourselves. AND we will no longer have to get a permit from the local sheriff before we buy a handgun in MO.

    [...]
At approximately 9:24 pm, the MO House took up and passed the Castle Doctrine bill, SB62 by a vote of 151-6.

The Missouri Castle Doctrine Law and PTA Repeal has now passed both the Missouri Senate and tonight the Missouri House! The Bill will now move on to Gov. Blunt who has said repeatedly that he will sign the bill. This is an important victory won by those of you who wrote letters, sent those emails and made countless calls to your elected state officials.

So do you want the really good news? The good news is that the Brady Campaign who currently rates Missouri a "D+" when it comes to gun laws will probably be upgrading us to the much sought after "F" rating in the coming weeks when Gov. Blunt signs the bill. That is when you will truly know that we have done something right here in the state of Missouri.

It should have been this way all along. This is great news.

Does this mean that you can stop a felony in progress? Does it have to be against YOU? It also states, "where he or she has a right to be", does this mean on or in your property or can it be out in the general public (shopping mall, gas station, etc.)?

I'm betting they meant "forcible" to be equivalent to CA's by force or fear terminology, so no crimes like grand theft but all violent crimes and similar, I wonder if burglary counts even if at the time you cant prove felonious intent.

I don't want to rain on the parade but if its unclear if you were defending yourself or not you'd be arrested and probably charged. If it was clear self defense before you wouldn't have been arrested most likely. I just don't see the logic of that part.

Awesome. Now instead of taking me an hour to get a gun, it'll only be like 15 minutes. :bigthumb:

There have been cases where someone shot and killed an attacker, were not charged, and the murdered "victim's" family sues the "murderer".

I'll have to do some mailings to congradulate the Missouri House and Senate, as well as Governer Blunt.

    this is fuckin awesome.

I remember reading a thread with something like this being proposed. Good to hear that it passed the house and senate, and will most likely pass the Gov.

I always felt weird waiting in the sheriff's office to fill out the form and for them to do the check. Castle doctrine will also lead me to get a Concealed carry permit. One of the main reasons i haven't yet is because there was no castle doctrine. Wonder if it still applies if i got a Florida permit?(no MO permit until 23, currently only 22.) They have castle doctrine too.

    Great news. thanks OT.

Any update on if Governer Blunt has signed the bill, and if so, when it goes into effect?
