I went to my first AutoX today with a couple of my Z-Buddies, they were having a Test and Tune. I think I did pretty good considering it was my first time and I am still stock running on less then sticky tires My best time was 0:354. My other friend in a Brickyard Track got 2nd place in his class running a 0:321, he is slightly more modified then me with an S-Tune suspension and 25+ more HP to the wheels He has also been with the SCCA for 6 years so he has a little EXP. under his belt. Here is a pic of his car

As far as other cars that were there it was a really good turnout. There was something for everyone.

    Here is a list:

2 Honda S2000's Not impressed considering this is what they were bred for...they were between 0:33 and 0:35
3 Honda Civics Not worth typing...
Mini Cooper women driver......best of 0:410
    Corvair (Drifting Queen)
Mustang GT 350 best of 0:389
Mustang Rousch Edition best of 0:372
    2 LT1 Firebirds between of 0:366 and 0:381
    LS1 Camaro same as above
    2 Corvette Z06's 0:319 -0:330
2 Subaru WRX Impreza's (one of which was highley modded) hoverd around the 0:33-0:37 mark
    Mazdaspeed Protege
6 Mazda Miata's hoverd around the 0:35 mark
BMW M5 (Drifting King) best time was 0:375
BMW M3 (Very fast and impressive for being stock) best time was 0:325
    2 BMW Z3's
    2 Nissan 350z my time 0:354 and Brick's time 0:321
    2 1973 Nissan 240z's between 0:41 and 0:38
    Nissan Sentra SeR
    74 Impala SS
2001 Monte Carlo Nascar edition
    2 Golf GTi R's
2003 Chevy SS Silverado ( this was laughable, he could not even take some of the switchbacks due to its length without hitting cones  )

    First was a modified Z06 with a 0:319 and 2nd was the modified 350z 0:321

Overall I think Autox is overrated, for the money I only got 6 runs in. I mean I guess it is fun if you have no track around you and it is a well organized event. But I just dont see what all the hype is about...

    cost/time...track is better

but for a newbie...autocross will help you learn LOADS about your car w/o the high speed danger that all new *drivers* will encounter.

Yes, it is very nice. His car is sponsered by the local stealership... it also has quite a few NISMO add-ons too. I'll see if I cant find his mod list...

 my car sucks, but i still want to try an autox event.

although the last car i drove through an autocross course went 0-60 in about 3 seconds flat and held about 1.5 lateral G's, so i don't think mine will be any fun by comparison :o

:werd: Someone was favoring the Vette's and Stangs just a wee bit much with that course. The course designer should be shot.

The stangs were not impressive, I pulled off better times then they did including the Fbodies, and like I said I am a AutoX noob...

Now the Corvetts were impressive but the Brickyard Z was only .02 seconds off teh vettes fastest time....

gimme a break. on a 35 second course, 1/10 of a second is a lot. the difference between 34 and 35 second finishes is big. furthermore, the drivers, im sure, were not experienced to say the least.

What I meant was that there were WAY too many straight sections for an autocross course, hence favoring the cars with more low-end torque. All the courses I've ever driven have never had so many straightaways. You'll find that the typical course is usually filled with slaloms/chicanes, hairpins, etc. and less straight sections. Still glad to hear you had fun at your first event. I'll never forget mine.

Reason I prefer Canyon Carving over any organized event, barely get any runs in, have to deal w/ track officials & their egos and availability.
