So on friday.. I have arranged a photoshoot with some local S2000s/G35s.. I figured when the sun is setting would be the best time to shoot.. around 5-6pm ish.

I dont do much car photography, so I'm looking at OT for some advice. I currently have a Canon 30D, Canon 70-200 f/4L lens, Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 lens, Canon 50 f/1.8 lens, Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens.. which len(s) would you recommend me using for automotive photography?

Also could some of you post up some of your best shots or your automotive galleries so I could see what kind of angles look good?

    Thanks again

    -Mark

    /\ Nice pics. What lens?

I think overall you will be more satisfied with pics from the 70-200.The only drawback of course is having to be further from the subject. Taking pics with multiple cars in the frame is going to involve a hike also. I use a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 most of the time for car stuff, it seems to be good lens for automotive.

    Examples....

I have the same Canon 50mm lens (nifty fifty), and it does well also fwiw. Here is a polarized example......

Shooting straight on or from the side = F2.8 FTW
Shooting on angles = midrange F4-8
    Shooting on grass =

I like to use the polariser to remove the reflection from the paint..

and I think the 10-22 is to distorted at 10mm or so.. though would be handy at the likes of a car show so you don't have people walking in front of you etc.

that said, i've done very little car photography

I don't think you should have shot those first two at 2.8, the fact that half of the car is out of focus is, at least for me, distracting to my eye.

also what's a good f stop to use when shooting cars.. to get the whole car in focus but the background a bit blurry.
