I caught the tail end of this on the Sundance channel. It's supposed to be a documentary about Mikhail Kalashnikov and the rifle he designed (the AK series).

Unfortunately, the actual documentary seemed to have already ended, and all I saw was a 15 minute promo for worldwide gun control, sponsored (naturally) by the UN.

    BOO!

Has anybody seen the actual documentary that played before the propaganda film?

If you want to be absolutely nitpicky, it's called Automat Kalaschnikow, since it was filmed and named by German filmmakers.

You can't truely appreciate the AK design until you've gone to the range and gotten brass trapped inside the reciever, and still had the thing finish the mag without you noticing.

the fact that it will trap brass inside the reciever is not a good thing.

Shit happens with every gun. The important part is that the gun kept firing afterward. What happened is that I thought I had a FTE, but it was really a stovepipe, and when I cleared the gun the brass wound up falling into the lower reciever.

Haven't you ever had the primer pop out of a 5.56 round and wind up in the lower reciever of your AR?

The AK is a work of art IMO. The first time you take it apart, there is no question in your mind why it still functions through the problems that it does.

Except that the thread is about the documentary, not the rifle, so if you want to get really REALLY REALLY nitpicky, you're wrong. ;)

no, i've never had any primer issues with my AR. in fact, i've yet to have any failures of any type in my AR, but i've seen some in the past, especially with shitty ammo, like silver bear and wolf, and with shitty mags, like USA brand mags. i've seen brass get stuck OVER the bolt, so i know what you're talking about. it's not a good thing, but i guess having a rifle that can tolerate it in certain cases is good.
