i was looking for a program that can be run on a windows xp machine that will automatically copy files/folders to another drive/network location at a set schedule. i don't want the whole drive. anyone know of a solution?

edit: i'd like it to backup only the changed files on each day, so if it backs it up on tuesday, but on wednesday i realized i fucked it up before teh change on tuesday, i can recover from monday. but it doesn't bother to re-backup the files that haven't changed. ---assuming that makes sense.

    xcopy c:\pr0n\beast\donkey\trans\*.* z:\sharedpr0n\beast\donkey\trans\ /d/y

save that as a batch file (.bat)

The go into start-control panel-scheduled tasks-add schedule tasks. Pretty self explanitory from there.

you want a "sequential" backup... xcopy does not do that. However, xcopy is a VERY easy option.

is there an alternative to xcopy that would do a sequential backup? even payware that isn't too expensive.

I've used Nero BackItUp at work quite successfully. Not sure if it's the best option, but it works :dunno:

Stores it in one file, always does normal backups, not incremental (IIRC)

And more importantly, it has nothing to do with transexual donkey porn.

Actually, I do recall reading that transexual donkey porn is expressly prohibited in Microsoft's EULA, so I don't think NTBackup is a good idea. :nono: :o :mamoru:

    Donkey porn?

Anyway NTBackup does do incremental backups, as well as differential, daily, normal and a couple others. I don't see the harm in backing up to a single file, other than it takes a little longer to retrieve the files... but how often are you going to do that?

It's built into windows, and can be launched from a command line. Unless you find something free that is more powerful I wouldn't waste my money, or try to reinvent the wheel.
