Well I need a car for auto-x I have like 4,000 to spend right now, but if i wait till the end of summer 05 i may have as much as 13k what car should i get?
    My curent rules are these:
    No FWD
    Car
    Standard trans
I am open to any ideas, I have really been considering getting a S14, but if i had the extra cash i was thinking WRX<<My most favorite car
Other ideas i had where supra, mr2, Miata(I hear they r no fun though), Maybee a mustang or camaro(I dunno much about mustangs or camaros)
Other thoughts to keep in mind are I don't care about reliability, i am a college student, I want it to be fast, and I want It to be competitive... I drive a Silverado SS truck right now, so this is not a dialky driver, and will probably be trailered to the track. :wavey:

Miata. Go watching auto X. The fastest WRX will be slower then the slowest Miata. Add suspension and tires, then when your ready, turbo it. They'ra fun, cheap, and excel at the sport.

I beg to differ. Althought the Miata is gatta be one of the best performers out there, I have seen stock WRX's beat stock miata's with experienced autocrossers behind the wheel.

Past that point of opinion, I would agree to say go with Miata or a CRX. Both do terrific on course. I may even end up with one soon.

They are extremely fast in the auto-x by any standards, and extremely fun to drive. The only hold back is their weak power output, but that can be fixed.

Miatas are great for BS or CSP but the CRXs / MR2s offer some good competition. Driving skill > car. I'd go with the Miata if you're looking to break into autocrossing to get better.

CRX's are FWD and thus fail his and my own standards. MR2's are nice, but a MKII is over 4k typically.

I've never lost to a wrx and never will. Last time i ran against one i had no mods, crap tires and averaged 1-2 seconds better than any of the wrx's. And anyone who says miata's aren't fun to drive has never driven one hard.

Maybe its the Altitiude here, but I see WRX's beat miata's quite a bit. With experienced drivers.

Now a Mazdaspeed Miata has all the goodies you could ever want.

why are you afraid of FWD ? just get a competitive car, learn to drive it, and upgrade later.

89-93 will be cheapest, also many prefer the 1.6(89-93) because of the slightly higher redline. Mines a 96 and my current mods consist of: koni adjustable shocks, konig 15x7's with Potenza RE750's, Flowmonster Intake, and a harddog sport roll bar. If you want to stay in stock class get a 94 or 95 R package; by far the best handling stock miatas made.
