audio 5.1 issue

    i just got a new soundcard and it was all seperate plug in for my speakers and its 5.1 it has seperate plugs for the front speaker rear and a subwoofer and what not . i also set the windows xp setting to audio 5.1 and when i run the test sounds come out of all the speaker. but when i run winamp and any other program there is no sound coming out of the rear speakers does any one know how to fix this problem thanx in advance

    also the card is creative labs 7.1 24bit card

    Well, your test sounds are encoded for 5.1, MP3s only have 2 channels. See if there's some sort of sound card setting that will duplicate the front channels and send it to the rear.

    you need something like Dolby ProLogic to up-mix the source to surround sound.

    I was using the onboard 5.1 on my M/B hooked into my amp, mp3's only came out the front left and right, once I got a Creative Live 5.1, they now come out of the rear too, don't know what happened :wiggle:

    For the other programs, make sure the audio is set for 5.1 with them.
