ATTN: WinXp Experts. My Start button is missing the word "START"

    I got this problem where the start button is missing the text, "START". Would anyone know how to fix this embarassing problem?

    That's what you get for buying a no-name ripoff of XP ;)

    Seriously, have you been using any skinning software like Windows Blinds or StyleXP? Have you tried re-applying the default windows theme?

    I'm not sure where, but I've seen an app or hack that would let you actually change the text or take it off on the stsrt button.

    Ditto about the skinning software...

    it's in the registry I'm 99% positive. if I were a good person, I'd look up exactly where that value is for you

    I forget how to change it, but mine used to say stop. It would also play a differnt sound when I turned on my computer, I just replaced the .wav file :p

    you're right. i've got a registry tip book in my basement that told me how to do this. i'm sure we can figure out how to un-do it. if no-one gives him an answer by this afternoon i'll dig it up and try and get an answer

    you do know there is control panel where you can change the actual sound file it plays. you didn't have to delete the .wav from the windows folder
