Here's a list of stuff I thought of to backup that aren't so obvious or that I'd forget about..

    ---------------------

    AIM Logs:
    /Users / user / library /logs / AIM®

    Mail.app saved mail:
    /Users/ user / library /mail

    Safari Bookmarks:
    /Users/ user/ library / safari / bookmarks.plist

add to the list! im thinking of stuff too

    --------------------

I have a feeling i'm gonna screw up importing my iTunes library... i have songs with over 100+ playcounts and i have a lot of Smart Playlists based on playcounts, so I don't wanna screw that over... anyone how know how to migrate an mp3 collection flawlessly?

you could just do an archive & install, thereby leaving your Users folder untouched

yeah but then i bet it wouldn't feel as "zippy" as a completely new install...

actually i think i've down archive & install before too

an archive & install archives all OS-related files and gets them all completely out of the way, installing a fresh copy in its place and saving you the trouble of moving files around. there's nothing to prevent it from being "as zippy" and would be a whole lot less work for you

usually: nothing. but in some rare cases, things get weird for people (i.e. odd buggy behavior). some people prefer doing it the other way just to be extra cautious. i always just do a normal upgrade though
