Yep, same here. Our PMS is trying to cover it up. But we have a required formation at 1630 in order to "fill out more paper work" "might take 2-3 hours"

I'll definately be getting drunk tonight no matter what I get.

No matter what branch you get you won't get dissappointed. No branches are really that bad, except for maybe chemical.

And Ordnance when you work you butt off to get an EOD slot, get ranked #1, and then you lose it because you randomly get selected as a priority fill and some other lesser qualified guy gets your spot.

Signal Corps signing in. It was my second choice so I'm pretty pumped

Had a great time that night. We even had the cadre out with us.
Still showed up for staff call at 0645.

:h5: What assignment preferences are you going to submit in the spring?

SC centers of gravity are Huachuca - Gordon - Korea - Germany and of course at each divisional location.

I didn't volunteer for it. The majority of Branch detail's get stuck in Ordinance, which I'm not very interested in.

I'm looking to go Ft. Hood actually. My dad was a CWO 3 - Signal and was there for 12+ years.

All the West Pointers get the good posts like Germany since they get first pick.

So what am I going to be doing as a Signal Butter Bar? Will I actually get a Platoon?
As I understand it you can be the S-6 when you are an O-2.

Hood is great. They have a Corps Signal Bde & 2 divisional "assets" I don't want to get out ahead of myself as most of the divisions have "transformed (If you can really call "that" transformation - ask insomnia you don't want to get me started on transformation) anyhow...the divisions will be moving to an assload of signal companies and no signal battalion. Lots of work to be done down at the division level and below. Any butter bar can be a Signal Bn S-6 ...it all depends on timing and what's what at the moment you arrive.

Cut your teeth "downrange" with the Artillery / Armor / Infantry battalion for 2yrs and see about a transfer back into a signal unit. It won't be "platoon" time but you're the defacto PL for the signal guys and learn far more than you would ever learn with any signal unit (unless you really really really like watching electrons)

Awesome. Hopefully I get Hood. How exactly do I get attached to a Artillery / Armor / Infantry battalion? Luck? Do they give any offers towards the end of SOBC(BOLC 3)?

There may be...I know that they were working for the longest time at rebuilding the S-6 course...but that seems to have fizzled. Of course the Signal Corps eats their own. That's what we do best. When / if you get sent "downrange" to those type of units you'll go woefully unprepared and you're going to drow and get destroyed by the Unit XO / S-3 that's a given...if / when you emerge from that unit a year or two later you'll leave with more knowledge than any other signal wenie that was too timid to venture out of the wire.

Best thing to do is to give a call to the S-1 shop @ 3rd Signal Bde and talk to the Officer Strength manager and see where they've got you slotted (After you commission and about a month after you get to OBC) Right now...obviously you're too far out to even think of trying to predict such a thing...but what you want to do is to try and stay ahead of the "wave" and pick an assignment to your liking before anything is finalized.

This is a post from armyocs about Mr. Al Rolland who take cares of branching as well as all other OCS items.. You might want to email him and see what you can find out from him..

But from what I read on armyocs it is almost a random thing about which branch you are going to get unless you are Reserve or Guard. There have been OCS classes where the majority have been MI while others have been Inf. So it seems random. The good thing is that you can trade with someone if they are willing.

NOT TRUE. Generally speaking you will get what you want. I had friends get Italy, I had friends get Germany, I have a friend got fucked and got Korea.
They generally try to give you the place you want.

You may be a S6, or you could be in another S shop, maybe S4. It all depends on what your unit has.

Well yeah that's true to a degree but 9 times out of 10 if I'm a Bn Commander / XO then I'm only putting my seasoned Lieutenants in the S1 / S4 positions. S6 will be a fill position from within the Signal units on post.
