I found a java book in my room that's aimed at developers and not beginners I guess, anyway it seems to cover some pretty good topics but the book is old and used java back in the 1.0 days so I'm wondering if the language has changed significantly till now? can I read this book and brush up on the new stuff quickly or is it not worth it? :dunno:

Def don't use something that old. You can find plenty of resources online if you don't want to buy a new book.

the thing is I'm not really interested in learning Java, but I figured I might as well learn it if I have this book lying around.

The actual concepts haven't changed at all, only the details of the syntax. If you want an introduction to programming, it's still fine. If you want to learn how to use Java, but have programmed in other languages before, then use the Java references on Sun's site (I think there's even a whole introduction to Java book on there) that use the latest version.
