(Are there any / what) guns that are banned in Illinois?

I'm probably leaving the country for the AF for 1-5 years and I might leave my weapons with my wife's family in Peoria. Except I wonder what weapons I wouldn't be able to bring there...

    Shotguns
    Mossy?
    Browning Auto-5
    Two over-unders

    Rifles
    Bolt-action Remmy .22
    Bolt-action Ruger 30-06
AR...? With 19 30-round mags? And ammo? :o

    Handguns
    3 x semi-auto pistols
    1 x single-action revolver

So. IL crew - can you help a broly out?

I'm actually PLANNING to leave them with my dad in Phoenix, but my wife has given me a few reasons to consider her parents' place in Peoria, so now I'm curious.

As long as you're outside of Cook County you'll be fine. The only things banned state-wide are all NFA items.

Oh, except that bolt action .22. Those have been proven as IL-babykillers and have been removed from the state. :mamoru:

Who ever you are leaving them with should probably have a foid card or apply for one now.

There are no gun or magazine bans by state law in IL. Some of the more populated cities and counties (usually chicago-ish) do pass more strict laws though. An old generally out of date reference is http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/ordinances.cfm Looking at that makes it look like peoria does have some restrictions on handgun transfers and handgun registration. It might be worth checking into something like the arfcom hometown forum for more peoria info

OK thanks for the tips guys.

Soy - to be clear, if none of her family has a FOID, I can't leave my weapons with them, eh?

Yes, I see. They wouldn't need to register any of them, would they? :greddy:

Well again from reading the above, it sounds like peoria might have handgun registration.

You can leave them at my place in WI :naughty:

I'll even shoot them from time to time, and send you pictures if you like :mamoru:

Something else you might consider is renting a safety deposit box at a bank in peoria or some place else that might be convenient for you. You'll go around the handgun registration and transfer problems and you'll keep the smaller better theft target guns in your collection safe.

Do they have safety deposit boxes big enough for rifles?

I meant for the handguns only but I have no idea.

"That'll be 1 safety deposit box. Would you like to cheney size that?"

Wait, I don't get it. Why would I not register the guns if they were in a safety deposit box?
