Birth control pills: what are you on? I need to switch from my Seasonale due to the side effects ; was talking with SpeedyGST about it (thank you  ) and I'm going in next week to get a new prescription. Just wondering if anyone has any stories/experience with particular brands, especially low-dose pills like Alesse/Ortho-Lo, etc.

What about it? :p That's what I'm trying to avoid, the standard-dose pill.

I'm not an expert at all, but the majority of girls I've been with are on it and like it, especially what it does for their skin.

Triphasic, monophasic..main problem is the amount of the dosage apparently.

Yasmin, it contains Drospirenone, which is the closest to a natural progesterone, whereas most use synethetic progestins and estrogens, which aren't as close to the chemical makeup. Not to mention it also helps with issues of previous oral contraceptives such as water retention and skin issues.

Google yas or drospir and you'll find some good stuff.

Yeah, only issue there is it supposedly isn't good if you take lots of ibuprofen, which I do.

Guess I'm down to ortho lo, alesse, mircette or something like that. I wish gynecologists were smarter in general, good grief. I've never been to one that apparently knew anything about what they were prescribing, they just pretty much nod and give you whatever you ask for.

I was taking Ortho-TriCyclen, but I was put on a trial version of Yasmin. With Yasmin you don't gain weight "it can also give you shorter, lighter periods, reduced cramps and a regular cycle"[/www.yasmin.com] ..etc as you would with most other pills. I will be sticking with Yasmin.

my gf;s put a bit of weight on recently, and she has been eating right and hitting the gym pretty hard during that time, so its pretty devastating for her confidence when she doesnt lose the weight she wants... im wondering if its her BC pill fucking her up after i read this thread..

what are the pills that DONT cause weight gain ? :hs:

Best advice I can offer based on my experiences: KEEP TRYING. Go get a different pill, make sure you give it a couple of months to let your body adjust to it. If it doesn't work, try another brand. It is SO incredibly freaking individual. That's why I want to get off Seasonale. I was on Depo, didn't work so well, went to Seasonale, it's meh, so I'm going to keep looking.

Triphasic pills and low-dose pills are apparently better for most women (note all the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo responses). Really, REALLY encourage her to go back to her gynecologist and get a prescription for something else- I've been struggling with the same thing. I work out, I eat *really* well, and I'm positive the pill I'm on is impeding my efforts.

Depends on the woman. It's actually really bad at producing terrible side effects in most women. Plus it does fuck up your bones to some extent.
