So I'm headed to AT&T Wireless to day to get a new GSM phone. I was really hoping to wait for the T600, but circumstances have forced me to upgrade now. Which is the bette rof the two phones below?

    Sony-Erricsson T616

    Motorola T721

i'm looking for something small enough ot go in my pocket, color screen, polyphonic ringer, and WAP/Internet enabled. SMS and AIM are nice options, as are the camera, but are not deal breakers.

Are there any other phones I should be considering? :)

Neither. But if for some crazy, fucked-up reason you actaully WANT GSM service, I would go with the T721.

I just got a T616 last week, but it's been giving me some problems. Bluetooth is not working correctly and for some reason when I am in a call it goes to standby which hangs up the phone. The bluetooth thing could be my fault, but the hanging up isn't.

Odd...you might want to take the phone back. Haven't experienced any of those problems on my T616.

I REFUSE to deal with Cingular, Nextel uses proprietary shit and Verizon is CDMA, as is Sprint.

Besides, I'd rather have a dual mode GSM phone since for where I'll be, coverage looks fine. It's also the emerging standard (abotu time we got this figured out).

    :)

Any experience with the motorolas? I might take it for the 30 day trial and see what's up, and swap it out if I don't like it. :big grin:

    I might have to. :wtc:

Yesterday it kept freezing up on me and if you went to "more" from the mainscreen it said:
    Turn Bluetooth on
    Turn Bluetooth off

how could it on and off at the same time? :ugh:

Why woudl I NOT want GSM/GPRS, aside from a less-than-total deployment?

TDMA towers are being shut down already, and the CDMA ones will be next. :dunno:

I had a Moto T720 and absolutely hated it. They shouldn't have called it a a phone; they should've just called it a banana since it's neither. Maybe the T721 is an improvement but that experience left a bad taste.

TMobile, Cingular and AT&T run on GSM networks, which in smaller areas aren't as fully deployed as Verizon and Sprints CDMA networks.

Soon though, the GSM network will be finished, and the US will adopt the same standard the rest of the world has had for years. CDMA will be dead in 5 years. :)

    T-Mobile?

i had ATT forever, and their shit SUCKS. Phones suck, service is TERRIBLE, and their coverage licks ass.

Verizon is a complete 180-degree turn from ATT. Phones are awesome, service is badass, and coverage is the best i've seen.

    Suit yourself! :fawk:
