Where do you buy your lenses?

I'm looking for a good place online either in Canada or USA that will ship here and has relatively market correct lens prices.

Specifically I'm looking for a Tamron 17-50 2.8 Canon mount.

So far I've been looking at potn forums, keh.com, adorama.com and henrys.com

Cheapest are POTN forums which have it for about $350usd
Most expensive are places in Canada that have a store front like Don's Photo and Henry's for ~$700CAN

Where do you live? If driving across the border isn't a problem, find a postal outlet and have it shipped there, then bring it back and pay taxes.

I find that even with the exchange rate and taxes, it's STILL cheaper than buying Canadian.

I'm in winnipeg, which is fairly close. My dad was telling me about a place that charges $2 to have it shipped to their location in pembina, ND and then I can drive down and pick it up.

There's proper procedure for taking stuff down, they record all serial numbers and the like. People have been busted for smuggling or whatever for doing what you suggested :o

Oh don't get me wrong, it's VERY common to get waved through with nothing but a few questions.... But if they catch you lying, even if the thing you were bringing back has no applicable taxes/duties, you get FUCKED.

3 weeks should've been long enough to have a limit large enough.. Why didn't you just tell them?

The place is Pembina is $5 a package, which starts to add up if you are getting a few packages.

This place in Neche is only charges $2, it is just a bit longer to drive, like 15 mins but there is usually a 0 wait time at the borders

    http://www.menkesparcel.com/

And don't bother trying to smuggle stuff across, it just isnt worth it. Most stuff you are only going to be paying GST and PST on.

I've had good luck with kijiji when buying used. It's up to the seller if they'll ship or not.

It's a location based search so If I'm looking for a specific lens I'll go to google, and type "Tamron 17-50 kijiji" It comes up with hits now and again. If it's a popular lens they usually disappear quick.

adencamera.com in Toronto is usually a little cheaper then Vistek, or Henry's. I don't know what their shipping rates are.
