Bought a bike today.. my first one since i was like 15..

    Schwinn Perlude 700C Touring/Road Bike 28"..

It was only 169.99 from target, on sale from 199.99 and looked pretty good.. I've always wanted a 'skinny wheel' bike.

I do no cardio because i hate treadmills and my ankles do not like it when I run, so I figured this would be a good way to get more active (outside of the gym) and help me shed a few pounds.

I decided to go with my friend and girlfriend on a ride today.. there's a pretty sick paved trail that runs for a long way through orlando, away from the streets/traffic, etc.. we did the whole thing and looked it up online, turns out it was 17 miles round trip.. I think I overdid it for my first time riding :mamoru:

My ass is killing me (even though I bought a gel seat cover thing), but it was fun as shit. :)

i remember.. i didnt have my own computer so i had to use my moms computer. I was about 13 years old and i read an article about self masturbation and i was like WTF im gonna try that. I didnt know quite what was gonna happen or how it would feel so i went on kazaa and searched for "Porn Movies" and downlaoded this one and wacked it for like 10 minutes to this movie.. IT WAS GREAT!! i remember feeling really good after i was done.. but i was kinda disgusted about what came out of my penis.. of course i had never seen that before

Roadbiker here.. Get bike shorts... the gel pad things kinda suck in my opinion. I would have spent more and gone with a roadbike with atleast a 105/ultegra grouppo but hey if it works for you and gets you riding its great. Your ass will get used to it after a couple rides. Oh and wear a helmet. Looking like a goof > severe brain trauma

mike, INVEST IN BIKE SHORTS. They are a godsend for your ass. Seriously.

Enjoy the biking :) See if at some point you can swap clip pedals onto there

bike shorts > gel pad seat thingy

also, a cyclocomputer's pretty much a must... it'll tell you exactly how far you rode, what your avg. speed was, etc. and they're pretty damn cheap too

and yeah, clipless pedals > platform pedals, by far

The bike works but dont put to much into it, you are better off buying a new one if you like cycling. Just keep the cadence high (about 80-90 round per min) and the gear low, your knee will love you after the years. If you want challenge do hill intervals.

I need someone to help me with my setup though.. not sure how high the seat should be, the handle bars.. how my position on the bike should be.. and i'm not really sure how the gears work either -- i know you can make it easier or harder to pedal, that's about it.

    help? :hs:

For seat height this is what i was always taught (my dad loved mountain biking):

    1) Put your heel on the pedal.
    2) Push the pedal all the way down, so it's at the very bottom of it's rotation.
    3) Your seat should be high enough that your knee is only bent a tiny bit when in this position. It'll probably "feel" like your seat is too high if you've never had yours set properly.

I can't comment on setting handlebar height, i never did. My seat was usually just slightly higher than the handlebars though.

You "fit" the bike if while riding you can look directly down the front fork's main tube (i'm not really bike crew so i'm sure this has a different name). There's probably more to ensuring you're sitting on the bike properly that someone else can fill you in on.

Your ass will get used to it and stop hurting eventually.

Gears are simple. If it's too hard to pedal, shift so it's easier. If you can't go any faster, shift so it's "harder" and you'll be able to.
