Atlanta Woman Uses Stun Gun To Help Officer In Distress

LITHONIA, Ga. -- Tanisha Cross never thought the stun gun she received for Christmas would come in handy so soon.

Cross said she was headed to Wal-Mart in Lithonia with her mother when she noticed a DeKalb County police officer being attacked by a suspect.

“I just told my mom pull over, … let’s try to help,” said Cross.

The 20-year-old mother, who received the stun gun as a gift from her husband, said she kept it in a diaper bag.

Cross said while others gathered to watch, she sprung into action.

"I went straight for my kid’s diaper bag and I got it and asked it if he [officer] wanted me to do it and he said, 'Yea,'" said Cross.

Cross said the officer had a hard time defending himself because the attacker had taken the officer's radio and managed to rub pepper spray in the officer's face and eyes.

Jolting the attacker, Cross' timing couldn't have been better. Cross said she tasered the suspect in his arms and legs.

Cross said she stunned the attacker to where the officer regained his composure and fought back until a security guard came to their aid.

"He’s brave," she said. "He did his best to keep him from his gun. He handled the situation very well. I was just glad I could help him," said Cross.

Cross doesn’t consider herself a hero.

"I’m just a bystander trying to help do the right thing," said Cross.

Nice to see someone who has a Taser and actually knows how to use it.

(waits for the 9mm crowd to point out she could've just shot him instead)

Were other people really just standing around watching a cop get the shit kicked out of him? What the fuck?

I would have definitely drawn down on him and clearly explained that if he continued to struggle with the cop and get near his gun he would have had big fucking problems.

was it a stun gun or a taser? huge difference.

although I must admit, the way the situation happened couldn't have happened any better, in my opinion.

sucks for the cop having his own pepper spray come back at him. I guess they train for that though. I wonder it was the horrible fog pattern.

That happened here except the bystander pumped 5 or 6 rounds of .45 into the BG.

    standby while i search

story went, guy pulled into a funeral precession (big no-no here), LEO pulled him over, they got into an altercation (guy was a former boxer), he gets mounted on the cop and is beating him down, tries to wrestle the cops gun away, bystander (w/ a cane) walks out of vato zone (or the likes), goes to his truck, pulls out his 45 (i think 1911), tells him to stop, pumps a couple in him, walks up, more, walks, pumps more, ends up with a head shot to stop him.

looks like my story was off a bit but you get the idea.

walked up to him, told him to stop, he didn't, stevens shot temple 4 times, he didn't stop, told him to stop again, temple still beating the cop so stevens put another in his head.

The only issue there is point of aim. If two men are on the ground struggling it's going to be pretty damn hard to make a shot that hits one and doesn't endanger the other.

I'm glad to see the officer prevailed in the end.

Citizens aren't required by law to help individual police fight off attackers.

Or the AK crew to come in and say she should have shot 83 rounds in a silhouette around him and made him wet himself and beg for mercy.

yah, and cops aren't required by law to protect you
but if criminals know we'll fight back, they'll be less likely to start trouble

So you'd just stand around and watch a cop get beat down and potentially shot & killed?
