Not really sure which one to pick, both have good/bad things about each of them. Also I have hosted with a lot of places, Asmallorange, hostgator, a few others and want to try sonething new.

    Media Layer: http://www.medialayer.com/
+ Assuming it runs blazing fast.
+ $9.95 for basic service, can work with that.
+ ZERO Overselling, seems like it.
    - Only allows 3 Domain.
    - 500MB of space, it's workable, but so tiny.

    Media Temple: http://www.mediatemple.net
+ Well Designed Control Panel/Site Layout.
    + Great Space/Bandwidth/Specs.
+ Handles Traffic Spikes Could be a better.
-$20 a month for basic service, kinda pricey for me.
    - Extra Charges for GPU's If I go over.

MT have had a lot of problems with their "Grid" in recent times. They've worked hard to resolve them but we're now several years since the first release and it's still not trouble free.

Been reading the reviews today, and finding that out as well. One of the bigger problems holding me back from ordering, also I have to wonder what happens on more than two sites spike up? What happens to the server then, do the two sites suck all the resources while the other 100x sites suffer. :hsd:

This comparison is an insult to Media Layer.

Media Layer is light years ahead of Media Temple.

With MT you will find that their control panel is sluggish, and their database grid servers are EXTREMELY slow. I say this because i visit webhostingtalk.com on a daily basis, and every post about media temple is about their slow database servers.

Media Layer on the other hand, is SUPERIOR in almost every way. They truly are a 'you get what you pay for' host.

Their support is amazing, and their servers are top notch. They are a little more expensive than your normal host, but this is well worth their service.

Also, MediaLayer will survive digg traffic on an uncached installation of wordpress.

MediaTemple are really no better than HostGator or Dreamhost in a lot of ways... they're just in shinier packaging. We have a very similar hosting platform to MT and Mosso (first of it's kind in the UK :x: ) but I like to think we've got ours right first time rather than MT who seem to have marketed the fuck out of the product before it was ready at all.

while they both are shared, i would never lump hostgator and dreamhost together

dreamhost is a class of its own

Do you mean in a class of their own by being bad? :hsugh:

Their control panel is disgustingly slow. :o
