At 10% bodyfat, should I cut a little before bulking?

So a little backstory to my background:

I'm 23 and I've always been one of the skinniest guys around... at the lowest point (couple things contributed to this--bad diet, stress at the time) I was 118 lbs at 6% bodyfat, as measured by an electronic scale.

I decided to bulk up according to stuff I read from this forum :o, going to the gym at first 2x a week up to 4x a week, and in the meantime gaining about 20 lbs in the span of a year (Dec '07 - Dec '08), making me now at 140 lbs @ 10% bodyfat. I stopped my diet about half a year while still keeping to a gym schedule of about 3x a week, nothing major just maintenance mode.

I noticed a couple things about my body. I noticed that I sweat easier when it's hot whereas I never did before. I also noticed that it's a lot more easier for me to accumulate fat around the stomach area, probably from eating out with friends, drinking lots of beer, eating shitty foods. Because of that, I realized I couldn't just let loose like back when I was skinny.

I'm about to start my second phase of bulking again, I'm fine with having the same timeline, so I'm wondering if I should cut to 6% or so before I start bulking again so I'd have that tolerance. I know it's gonna be a little harder to go from 140 to 160, so any other advice you guys might have will be appreciated.

    Thanks a lot :wavey:

If you are really 10% that means you have a very solid 6 pack

and no, i dont think anyone will recommend you cut at 140lbs unless you are 5ft tall. Even then.

Bulk up to a clean 180-200 then worry about cutting...

I had to cut a bit from 12-13% which was when I saw fat. I always have trouble with abs, I think it's partly due to my lower back pain, it's harder for me to train them. So yeah, don't really have a six-pack yet.

    how tall are you?

If you dont have visible abs you probably really arn't at 10%

most people that think they are 10% are more in the 15% range

Oops forgot to mention. About 5'10".

No, my abs are visible now, but they're not bulging. I just see faint lines which isn't that hard to get.

So you think eating clean is enough? I've calculated my new caloric requirements to be 3727 kcal, according to

Depends what your goals are broski, but typically 10% is a great starting point for a bulk

Forget body-fat percentages. If you're 140lbs you need to bulk like it's your life goal. The only exception being if you're under 5' 6"

    140lbs at 5'10 is ridiculous.

When you get to 185lbs MAYBE consider a cut.

    .

I'm trying to eat as much as I can to get some decent weight on me, but I still look anorexic with a tad stomach fat. I don't even think it's stomach fat. It's cause I have zero chest so my stomach sticks out. You can even see my ribs :hs:

yep very true. You would never cut unless you have a decent amount of muscle

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Although I'm still not sure if my gut is mostly loose skin. :dunno:

    I was the same way.

Honestly, if you don't see abs at that weight/BF, it's because you don't have any. It's time to put on muscle.
