I recently went to the Speed Art Museum www.speedmuseum.org where they have 17th Century Dutch art. And I saw this one painting that I really liked, but I can't remember who did it or what it was titled. Obviously it was a Dutch painter in the 17th century most likely. I was going to look for a life-size poster to frame or something.

The painting was just a simple portrait of a family--the father was carrying the mother and child on his back.

    Any help is appreciated. :x:

Can you elaborate on the style? Was it bright? Lots of detail in the patterns of their clothes? Oil? (should be oil, the dutch  oil those days...because of the climate). Was is hyper realistic? Stylized? Lots of dark with only a few highlights of bright bright light?

Maybe I can help you :hsd: I never concentratd on dutch art in college but I have a minor in art history.

It was very dull colors, as were most of the paintings in the display. The family had raggy clothing, most likely living in poverty. The father was carrying his family on his back (mother and child I believe).

I just thought it was a very cool idea that the father was carrying his family, figuratively speaking. To me it was like how at some point in your life you have to become a man, face up to your responsibilities, and you will have your family depending on you and looking to you for support.:o :hsd:

    That's just what I thought.
