well this kinda does not have to deal with guns. but then it has to deal with one big one :)

i joined the army on monday and got out of meps this afternoon. shiping to ft knox in 58 days for basic. then reporting back to ft knox to become a tanker

    120mm main gun :yum:

What kind of 18th Century twit still shoots a smoothbore?
    (total weapon envy)
I didn't mean what I said, can I shoot it sometime?

Just curious, how much does each shot cost? I would guess depleted uranium costs more than FMJ.

to be honest, i dont know.

however, i did find a swiss army press release that claimed the costs to be between 800 and 3,000 swiss francs per shot depending on the types of ammunition used. the swiss army uses the leopard 2 which has the same 120mm gun as the abrams.

    btw, 800 - 3k swiss francs would be around 630 - 2,400 $

fuck i was at Ft. Knox starting april of 01' ... lasted until august and got the boot (no pun intended) on a medical.

best 4 months of my life.

BTW those hills are gonna own your ass.

i was in the "harder" companys as far as training goes. Echo company fuck cant remember the info.

we got less sleep than anyone else and since we started kinda early we didnt even have a dedicated chow hall for 2 months... we had mre's for two meals lunch and dinner and heavily rationed food for breakast that we siphoned off a distance chow hall..

hunger was crazy among us.. everyday at all times we were always hungry...

    among other things

no disrespect or anything, mate, but 99% of all personnel are in the "tougher" company. at least thats what theyll claim after a couple of beers.

eg "dude, i know what most people think of the navy, but on my ship there was absolutely no anal buggerage. honest."

Since there were several mentions of "The Hill", I'm kinda curious myself. But I think they are going to keep it to themselves and let you find out for yourself :big grin:

boo hoo. i'm serious about the hearing loss. if you go armored cav, you will come out deaf, or well on your way. as a 20-year old guy with diminished hearing, i can tell you that it will not be fun. i can't pick out voices from background noise, and even without background noise, they often sound like mumbling. i'm a musician, so it could prove quite bad in the future if i can't hear too well. as of right now, i'm still able to filter different instruments out, and i can pick out singing in music. but if you were to talk to me, face to face, and somone shut a door nearby, if it were more than a normal closing of the door, i'd miss whatever you said at the same time it closed. movies suck for me, because there's often so much crap going on along with the dialogue.

anyways, fair warning on the ears.

oh, the worst for me is someone rustling papers while i'm trying to hear something. it doesn't matter how loud, it disrupts any hope of hearing what i'm listening to.

I've had hearing loss all my life, I always pray that I don't have to ride in the back of the car. The speakers behind me are the only thing I can hear. Background noise destroys anything someone trys to say to me. It's really not something to be flip about.

i ride in the back of the car too, because i drive a truck with only two seats, and there are three of us that regularly go out and do shit, like going to the range. the driver and the 6' 4" guy get to sit in the front, and since i'm over 100lbs. lighter and about 5 inches shorter than the passenger, i sit the back. unfortunately, both of them face forward when they talk, and the big guy mumbles most of the time. he talks very quietly, and sounds like he's got a big pickle in his mouth sometimes. it's VERY frustrating indeed.

and shooting, even with hearing protection, will still destroy it over time. if you don't wear both muffs and plugs, you'll still suffer hearing loss over the years if shooting is a regular thing like it is for me.
