Do the other branches of the military have anything similar? I can't count the number of times I have been in a formation or briefing or gaggle of soldiers, and someone says something like "Integrity, hooah!", followed by affirmative nods and comments from everyone present.

When I was in the Air Force, we had nothing like this. There was no groundswell of peer pressure to always do the right thing, no matter how difficult or painful it might be. But since I've been in the Army - even in the Reserves - I have been surrounded by the Army Values from day one.

Yet another reason why the Army seems to fit me like a glove. :wiggle:

I haven't used any support since my left nut went back to normal size. :wiggle:

But back to the topic: you know it's true. The Air Force has nothing like the Army Values that are interwoven throughout the everyday experience of a soldier.

:bigthumb: How much are they integrated into every aspect of a seaman's life? Is is common to hear them referred on an almost daily basis?

    Army Values:
    Loyalty
    Duty
    Respect
    Selfless Service
    Honor
    Integrity
    Personal Courage

If my memory serves me right, the old school version of the army values was RCHILDS. I forgot what it stood for.

You hear a lot of speeches on them, but really we hear integrity first all the time.

    This is where size matters.
How big of a unit are you in? How often do you have formation/muster?
My experiance has been the bigger the unit/division + the amount of time a week for muster = more speeches on Navy core values.
But that is not a rule, just a general guide.
20 people unit(give or take), muster everyday, and our Chief at least once a week, if not more will make a statement concerning our core values.
And if he doesnt, or even if he does, one of my fellow First or myself will.
Where I have been in a 8 man shop and we all sat around drinking coffee in the morning talking about our work day/schedule and never once talked about core values.

I'm in the Reserves. Company drills average around 120 men, and we get Army Values infused into every single thing we do. I joined this Company just before they returned from Afghanistan, and these guys walked in the door slapping each other on the back, congratulating each other for making it home, and even then the values were mentioned.

I asked my Army son if he ever sees anything similar in the 3rd ID, and he says they are the same way - only they give the values a little "boost" by smoking you if you need it. :mamoru:
