I've always wanted to be in the military and now it's about time to choose what I want to do. I want to be an Army Ranger, but then I get this feeling that I will regret not joining the Marines. If I join the Marines first, I get a feeling that I will regret not becoming a Ranger. So I've been thinking. Maybe join the Army for 3 years (after 4 years of ROTC in college) and once that is done, join the Marines. Do many people do this? Would I get any advantages joining the Marines after the Army? What do you think of this?

the Maries are for the most part a one term service...soemthing like 70% of marines are out after 4, Marines then army is probably more normal...I know here in the AF we have quite a few former marines

If you join the Marines first, when you switch to another branch you are excused from having to go through their bootcamp. All other branches have to attend Marine Corps bootcamp when they switch over.

This man has a point. Go Marines first, then join the Army.

  6. One of the reasons why I chose ROTC over Marine Corps OCS.

you really have no idea what you want to do.
you cant just say your gonna be an Army ranger after ROTC. You may not even branch infantry.
if you really wanna go ranger, get a RIP enlisted contract

your righht i have no idea what i want to do, thats what im tryin to figure out.

I wanted to do ROTC so I can train while in college without having the chance of a deployment to mess up my college schedule. I know I can join the reserves, but theres no guarantee I won't be deployed. I have no problem getting deployed after I graduate.

Do your research and pick one or the other, if you are planning on doing +4 years in the military it's just going to set you back career wise making the transfer from one branch to another.

because boot camps are hard?? Finish your schooling and then decide what you want to do, dont join anything until you are 100% sure of what it is you want to do with your life

After doing four years in the army, nobody would want to have to leave their family for 13 weeks and get treated like shit after you've become accustomed to being in charge. Not thats its difficult, just unappealing.

go army first. If you go to the marines first then everyone in the army unit has to listen to dumbass shit like "In the corp we did this" or countless other idiotic shit. Just go army and then you can get your lobotomy before you join the corps.:fawk:

whats worse is that he was talking all kinda devildog shit and got his ass smoked on a little 4 mile run and then only shot 22/40 on the range. Had to refire 3 times to get a 29/40. Don't get me wrong he has a lot of knowledge but his attitude sucks donkey balls and his mouth writes checks his ass can't cash. (worst type of infantry sergeant, oops I mean Staff Sergeant)

No. OCS is where officers are made. ROTC is just boy scouts for college kids.

  24. Then what is the thing you do in the summers for the Marine Corp called?

Its called OCS. But in the Marines, even if you do NROTC you are still going through OCS (I believe in the Army you still go through something other than ROTC).
