You can't pick and choose like that, if the army allows this douchebag to decide when and where he wants to serve (i.e. not Iraq), then countless others will do the same when they see that he was able to refuse to go without any severe punishment at all.

shut up, you're not in yet. you don't get to lecture me.

The best thing for the army to do would have been to quietly reassign him or swap him out with an LT serving with a unit going to afganistan. We don't need any more negative press than we already have.

I agree 93%. Send him to Afghanistan, but after his year is up put him on a rotator to Iraq for a rocking 1 year tour being in charge of the TCN details. After he finishes his time in Afghaniland and Iraq give him a general discharge.

You may not respect my opinion, but i'm still going to say it, he is a chickenshit that was more then willing to take the benefits that the army gave him when it didn’t mean putting himself in harms way, but when the rubber met the road he jumped and HIS men are there now in the heat, dust and unfriendly surroundings of Iraq while he goes home at night and spends his day in an air conditioned office. He should be in a prison cell waiting his court martial where they should dishonorably discharge him, strip him of his citizen rights forever and confine him to prison for many years, the only thing i'm wondering is if his attorney will hire Cindy Sheehan as an expert witness :hsugh:.

Regardless or where you sent him no one will respect him once they hear about how he deserted HIS troops as they headed off to battle while he was palying games with the whole "illegal orders and atrocities!" crap back home. I may not be in yet, but I know enough to know that a soldier doesn't get to pick and choose exactly which theatre he wants to fight in.... he's a disgrace to the uniform and to all the brave men past and present who did the job that they swore to do.

You obviously don't know what the TCN details are.

No such thing as quiet, the people in his unit would have found out he wasn't going and it would have leaked out to the press the military gives special treatment to officers allowing them to choose whether or not they can go to Iraq. That would have been an even bigger disaster than this.

I wouldn't consider this bad press for the military, it just makes him look like an idiot. Since he is just a LT chances are he's been in the military for less than 4 years which means he probably accepted his commission after 9/11 and knew we were going to be at war with Iraq.

Side bar...book I'm reading ascerts that the Bush Administration came into office with the intent to solve the "Saddam Problem" one way or another.

This guy is barely a 1LT. Meaning...he was commissioned after the 2003 Ground war. Me thinks (Put on your Tin Foil Hats) that he deliberately commissioned and wait for his chance to deploy so that he could pull a publicity stunt like this. Check out his website and all the stuff he's done to attempt to show that he's in the moral right (cause there's no way in hell he's in the legal right and the courts will support this) and that America is a big bad country blah blah blah...Some day this kid will use this experience to rally large groups of people around him just like Cindy Sheehan does her son's sacrifice. Her son dying for his country was the best thing that ever happened to her...just like this is the best thing that happened to him. Kinda sad ain't it?
