I just read it over on the forums at mil.com... there was no link to a story or anything so it's still unconfirmed.

wasn't that the guaranteed SF slot if you could hack it, otherwise you were their bitch contract?

Nothing was guaranteed. If you passed OSUT, then you could go to Airborne school, then to SOPC I and so forth. If you didn't make it then you would either end up leg infantry or airborne infantry.

yup. even though you would go thru airborne school once you failed out after that either in SOPC, SFAS, or Q Course you go to needs of the army aka next deploying unit. so even though your airborne you may very well likely end up in a leg unit.

Thats good. Its a waste of money anyway. Imagine some 18 year old immature kid trying to be in SF. Just think about what his maturity level is. It'd be a waste of time and money. I think it'd be better if you got someone with intermediate level skill in the army to even try out.

Its my understanding that its not cancelled. They've just stopped giving any new contracts for the year for the time being. USAREC HQ will give more info tuesday when they reopen.

Maybe so. The only real extra cost if you were to compare an 18x and someone who is already in and attending SFAS. The 18x would do OSUT, ABN then SOPC I. Obviously the the person already in the Army would skip SOPC I and may or may not have ABN school. The Army really isn't spending anymore money letting people off the street attend SFAS. They are just getting a larger applicant pool to pull from. It doesn't really matter how old the person is or where they are coming from. The course is designed to weed those people out. In the case of teh 18x program that mostly happens at SOPC I before SFAS and then continues on through the rest of the Q-Course. I wouldn't think there is any specific trend after SFAS that shows 18x not making it versus prior-enlisted guys not making it.

If you have what it takes to make it through all the shit you have to go through, then you probably deserve to be there.

I don't think you can make it through on physical capabilities alone.
