On Friday, I was lifting for the first time in at least a year. I was doing some tricep exercises, am now incredibly sore. It seems to have gotten worse. I can barely lift my arms. I know, have fun with saying that I'm butt hurt, but I am concerned. Is it normal to be this sore after 2 days? Also, If i'm this sore, how can I except to lift again for a routine?

Do any of you use any types of ointments to relieve pain?

    Thanks

Work out again. I believe there were some supplements that relieved the pain, but i may be wrong.

I work out when sore, nothing big. I remember a few years ago it took me about a week to stop feeling sore completely.

There's no risk of damaging the muscle?

I believe there is nothing wrong with muscles physically but the pain is caused by lactic acid.

To slow down its release you should concentrate on breathing alot during the work out. The more oxygen getting into muscle, the less acid build up you will have.

I think you are right. I was breathing like a fool, sometimes even holding my breath when trying to lift. Should it be:

breath out while exerting force, breath in while returning to starting position?

I feel like a fool, I can barely lift the phone handset to my ear.

Yeah holding your breath increases the build up.

Breathing depends on each person. Just breath in a way you feel comfortable with.

Lactic acid is NOT the cause of soreness.

Rest until your arms feel mostly better, a small workout will help recovery, get your protein.

As someone said you can try some active recovery. Do a few sets of high rep w/ low weights on the muscle groups that are sore.

make sure you are getting your 8 hours of sleep and continue to lift, it will disappear eventually.

Next time you go to the gym stretch inbetween every set. A quick 10-15sec stretch for each arm and you are good to go

    stretch more...sometimes that can help
wait till you dont feel sore and lift again..it will take a few times lifting and then the soreness won't be nearly as bad the next day
