Just curious what brand of batteries you stick in your flashes. I just got my 420ex and wanted to pickup some rechargeable batteries. The reviews that I found online were dated back 2/3 years.

you're going to get a ton of eneloop replies. I use some sanyo hybrid and energizer 2500s. I've used both a number of times without recharging and they hold strong. I usually recharge them every 3rd time I use them... they probably fire 150 times each time I use them.

3 sets of Energizer AA's that i cycle through my 430ex. As i understand the battery life is higher on the 430ex than the 420ex, but i was EXTREMELY suprised how long they lasted. i have get over 100 shot before i notice the recycle get slower.

I bought 16 Energizer 2500s about 2 years ago and they worked fine until a month or so ago. Now about every other charge, the recharger rejects one of them. Not bad considering they got charged on average about once a week.

Always use the Kirkland AAs from Costco ... they are not rechargeable but only $10 for 40

That way I don't have to worry about charging my batts or worrying whether I have them charged or not ... just toss 20 in my camera bag and go

What charger are you using? Is it intelligent, and charge individual batts?

Did a search on POTN and they seem to really hate Energizer 2500 because they loose their charge if you let them sit. There were a few others that claimed they worked great even after sitting a couple days.

That's my issue with them as well...

I do have some Duracell 2650's that seem to do much better.

I was thinking about just jumping on those eneloop's since they are $14 for an 8pk. Can someone recommend a 30 minute charger?

I leave the eneloops in most of the time because they hold their charge so well. If I know I'm going to be shooting a lot, I get everything charged and stick the sony/energizers in.
I'm really not sure how much of a difference they make. Recycle times at full charge don't seem any different, and I make a habit of changing my batteries when I feel I've shot a fair amount and have a few minutes to sit around rather than waiting for them to get low and miss something because my flash is taking too long to recycle, so I don't know if I'm getting any extra shots out of them either :p

I tried it with the fake batteries and wasn't happy... so I'm trying something a little different. I'm only going to do these on my dedicated off shoe flashes though

I'm using the Energizer fast charger. It takes about 10 minutes to charge the batteries and yes, it will do a single battery if I need. It blinks the charging light when it detects one that it can't charge.

Yeah I had experience with that in electric RC cars.

I figure I can just get THIS and the 8pk of eneloop. Should be good with that.
