you know, given catholic and other religious views.... are you?
oh and im not
Nope, ever since I found out "God" doesn't support who I am. I never really was in the first place but that just ruined it for me.
well some would say god supports u, but his followers dont...
well if your into that kind of thing...
Not particularly but kind of, I'm weird!
No, never been.
Same here. I've tried going several times never got anything out of it so I don't see the point in going so I quit.
spiritual - not religious
God made you who you are
Don't let people tell you otherwise
I believe Christianity is like Santa Claus for adults.
"Hey everyone, let's believe in a guy who died to take away our sins... and then came back to life... and now we have to drink his blood and eat his body to continue to cleanse ourselves of sin".
No thanks. I don't need to put my faith in a zombie vampire to make myself feel better.
That being said, religion itself has some good qualities. All religions generally believe in treating others with respect, loving your fellow man, and being a good person. That's how I try to live.
I don't know what to say about that, hypocrisy always manages to find its way.
nope. the universe is a place that goes beyond our understanding in both size and complexity.
i think it's rather arrogant and folly for any human to claim they have the foggiest idea of what the universe is and how it came about (especially without any empirical evidence!)
when it comes to that subject, i would rather take the word of science.
which hasn't been perfect either, but at least science has the ability to admit faults and correct them.
i do have a spiritual side, which nothing has described better than the taoist texts, which is actually just more of a philosophy than a religion.
part of which is a teaching of "let nature be your guide" which goes hand in hand with science, resolving both my spiritual side and my logical side into harmony.
i am really on the fence on this one, leanining more toward atheism... i saw this awesome debate on this topic though. i found the link in the 'life after ot' forum:
Personally I think atheists are just as bad as christians. Any group that "advertises" that they are the right group or religion is something Im going to stay away from. Im not going to go around telling others what to believe and what not to believe and I expect the same from others.
When someone tells me what to believe is when I step in. If an atheist came up to me and told me not to believe in god I'd tell him off just like I would a christian.
I believe that we exist
But, many great things have been done in the name of God.
Yes, many horrible things have been done in the name of God too.
But, not all Christians are bad. Some are loving, wonderful people.
I've always wondered what the fuck people meant by this.
my faith is based on a relationship I have with God - not on an emphasis on laws and codes of conduct set in place by the Bible or man. I believe the fundamental value of my faith rests in love - God's love, my love for God, and my love for His people.
that's what that means to me anyway
To a lot of people spiritual means you believe in a mind-body connection. People who practice yoga, meditation and hypnosis are typically considered "spiritual" people. Some people go as far as believing that the mind can heal the body itself of HIV, Cancer, and other "incurable" diseases, which I tend to believe (don't wanna get into it).
So in summary- spiritual (mind, body, self) Religious (god, jesus, gays go to hell)
usually the general short definitions I believe
When I say I'm spiritual but not religious I mean that I don't believe in a superior being, but I do think that there is something out there that we cannot explain. Such as karma, if you live a good life, good things will come back around to you...how? I'm not too sure but it seems to be true.
As far as following a religion..I see the thought of religion to be a sort of safety net for those who cannot accept that we are alone.
One question, three totally different answers. I guess the answer is that every means something different by it.
Except for the guy who said the mind can heal HIV... that's just stupid.
lol, I didn't say it could but I said people believe it can.....read a fucking book about it and maybe you wouldn't be such a retard and not know what the term "spiritual" means....
